How can it be silenced?

Are you tired of snoring but not sure what to do next? There are so many products on the market that claim to be ‘the cure’. But in most cases, in order to truly cure snoring, you need to know the cause, and there are many! At Sleepfit our goal is to get you (and your partner!) sleeping well as soon as possible.

Why Do I Snore?

Snoring is caused by air not being able to move freely through your nose and throat whilst you sleep. This is due to muscles in your throat that relax when you fall asleep and create a partially closed upper airway.

The reason why some people snore and others don’t can be due to a variety of factors such as:

  • Excess weight, especially around the neck
  • Enlarged tonsils
  • Smaller airways
  • Shape of the nose or jaw
  • Alcohol and medications
  • Sleeping position

30% of men and 20% of women* that snore suffer from obstructive sleep apnoea to some degree. To find out if your snoring is linked to OSA, take our free online sleep test now.

How Do I Stop Snoring?

A number of solutions are available that treat snoring.  Whether you need a change in lifestyle or a simple device, the solution that is right for you is dependent on the cause of your snoring and whether you also have obstructive sleep apnoea.

Obstructive sleep apnoea is a serious but manageable medical condition that, if left untreated, can lead to important health conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, anxiety and depression. You can assess the likelihood of sleep apnoea using our free online test or if you have any other questions, book in for a free consultation to talk about the process with a member of the SleepFit team.
